How can I apply for a writing grant?
I heard the government does grants to write books. I’m currently in the beginning stages of writing a book based on a true story, how can I get one?
Which government? What country do you live in?
If you live in the U.S., you can apply for an NEA grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. However, you have to already be a published author, and you’ll be competing against some of the most accomplished writers in the country.
Many states offer smaller grants, but usually to support the ongoing work of at least somewhat established writers. The application process can be long and involved, so you might want to look at the work of past winners to decide if what you’re doing is the sort of thing that gets funded. Could save you some time.
