How do you write a book using Microsoft Word?
About a week ago, my friend had been wondering what program to use if he wanted to write a book. I told him id look for him and i got the best answer being Microsoft Word. However, there is a setting on Word that can make into a Book Writing format or smothing like that. I was just wondering for all you whizzes out there who know everything about Word, how do you make this setting? Where do you go to find it? Please explain in great detail so i can just show it to my friend without having to remember everything.
Unless your friend is expecting to self-publish his book, forget about “book format.” Instead, research the general formats publishers are asking for these days. Usually, they want such basics as:
1. Single-sided 8 1/2 x 11 pages.
2. At least a 1-inch margin on all four sides of the page.
3. A header on each page with the author’s last name, an abbreviated title and the page number.
4. All text double spaced (two lines, not two spaces).
5. A simple 10- or 12-point font. Courier New and Times New Roman are standard. (I prefer a font that has different characters for lower case L and upper case I, so “I’ll” doesn’t look, well, like that.)
6. Text that is NOT right-aligned.
There are other rules, so I suggest he look at the Writer’s Digest Shop web site for useful books.
