Comic Book Writing Formatting

comic book writing formatting
I want to do desktop publishing what kind of paper cutter and stapler do i need?

I have done some publishing in the past of zine type publications and comics and usually it was sheets of 8.5 x 11 standard copy paper folded in half and we called that digest size. It gave you a format that is 5.5 x 8.5. I would like to do this again and I guess you could call these pamphlets. I would like to publish some poetry and writing on my own.

I am trying to do this all on my own. One reason is to save and costs and one is to have fun doing it. I am will need 2 items right away to simplify things. I will need some type of paper cutter to cut off the end of book or pamphlet to have a nice straight edge after cutting and so I can make different size books.

The paper cutter will have to go through many sheets of paper, more than 24. And of different pound weight.

I will also need what I have been looking into and that is a saddle stapler or long-reach stapler to staple the inside of the book.

Any suggestions on what to get? Anyone with any experience in this?

You really have to watch with how many pages you are doing in a saddle stitch, since after a certain amount the pages will creep and you have to compensate for that.

As for staplers, I’d try Staples, my boyfriend bought a decent stapler that goes through about 60 pages. Not sure how long it is, but just look for sales on that kind of stuff, you’d be surprised what you can get from Staples.

As for a paper cutter, I’m really not sure. You could try a rotary cutter of some sort, but I’m not sure how many sheets they can cut through. I’d check out stationery stores and such for that, and just see what they have. I will say that those arm cutters (the ones with the blade that you lift up and then slice down) aren’t very good after awhile.
